My name is Scott Stocking. I was born and raised in Omaha, Nebraska, graduated with a B.A. in Psychology from the University of Nebraska-Omaha and then moved to Lincoln, Illinois, where I earned a Master of Divinity degree in Hebrew/Old Testament. I have taught biblical languages, hermeneutics, worldviews and world religions, and prior-learning portfolio writing for over 25 years. In 2011, I made a resolution to God (the real God, not the New Year’s god) to read through the entire Greek New Testament. I began writing about what I was learning on Facebook, if only for myself, but soon developed a following there, and took my musings to the next level, the Sunday Morning Greek Blog.
In February 2011, I took our congregation’s “301” class for service, for which we had to take the Clifton Strengthsfinder survey. One of my strengths was intellection, and the accompanying book suggested one way to exercise that strength would be to write a blog. Since I was already doing that, I made the jump to a formal blog site, WordPress.com
I’ve been doing the blog for 15 years as of the beginning of 2026. I am still really enjoying it, and I enjoy the verbal feedback I get from my friends here in Omaha as well as the comments from those of you out in Cyberspace. Sunday morning hasn’t been enough time lately to write all that I want to write, so I either have to scale it down or start on Saturday night. If something I say touches you in some way, I’d like to know what impact it had on you. You can drop me a private e-mail using the link herein or leave a comment. I finished reading through the Greek NT on schedule for 2011, and I did it again in 2012. I took a break from blog writing in 2013 because of some consulting and editing work on Bible projects I was doing in my spare time. The break went longer than I thought, as I got remarried in April 2014. Jill and I will have been married 12 years in April 2026 and we’re still going strong. This blog site has become the repository for all my sermons since I started filling pulpits after COVID, and I began including audio files in 2022.
I have my own worldly goals for writing this blog, but the bottom line is that I want to be faithful with the resources God has given me, including my ability to handle the biblical languages. I’m coming to the realization that when I try to do things on my terms, things don’t go right. God, I’m completely yours. This blog is yours. My time and resources are yours, because you have led me to where I am today. It’s not me, it’s YOU! Thanks be to God for his indescribable gifts and calling!

I haven’t kept up with the comments, but I wanted to thank you for sharing this post. I noticed a marked increase in views for this post in the past 18 months, and I presumed the pandemic had something to do with that. My wife is a therapist in a SNF, so I know the stresses healthcare workers have been experiencing. I’m very appreciative of all that the healthcare workers have been doing in these difficult times.
